Job Description
The Position
The Mechanical Design Draughtsman will work with 3D CAD Bentley products and exhibit in-depth knowledge in mechanical layout and piping design. The designer will own and administrate the intelligent CAD 3D models, using Bentley software, collaborating with engineering companies ensuring that the models are set up and kept up to date, reflecting live design progress. This role will collaborate to develop new equipment to tie into the existing Kemerton Plant, working with the original intelligent MicroStation models, intelligent P&IDs and supporting databases.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure adherence to Albemarle safety standards throughout Project execution
Protect Albemarle information in all new projects and dealing with contractors and sub-contractors
Assist in developing and conveying the unique safety culture of the Kemerton plant, with the new systems developed, to contractors and vendors with the goal of zero harm (or other similar protocols developed for Kemerton)
Advise on the development of 3D models for expansion projects, directing vendors on the methods of setting up models so that the models produced can be integrated seamlessly into the Master Model
Advise on setting up new engineering companies’ model environments using Bentley intelligent software, with appropriate databases, catalogues and intelligence with the view to developing the model as a “digital twin” in the future
Provide ongoing supervision of modelling and CAD administration of companies working on the Kemerton models;
Assist in developing and updating CAD catalogues and specifications for 3D modelling and intelligent P&ID’s;
Contribute to the development and review of new projects, ensuring compliance and safety in design, in line with Kemerton design criteria
Create new mechanical and piping layouts with preliminary structural additions and changes as required by each new project
Prepare drawings, plans and details for fabrication and installation of smaller projects, under the direction of the Project Delivery engineering team
Prepare new layouts and location of equipment for larger projects in the 3D model, for an EPCM to progress through feasibility to detailed design and execution phases
Lead and take part in design reviews and HAZOPs as required
Maintenance of drawing register and Kemerton’s 3D models using Bentley’s ProjectWise 3D model manager
Review and respond to technical queries raised on projects
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with mechanical design and layout criteria, ensuring safe design, accessibility, operability and maintainability of proposed equipment
Assist project management team with material and updates for presentation on designs and progress reporting
Contribute to the development of the integrated project schedule and change management/mitigation
Participate in value engineering, constructability, and risk reviews and support maintenance of the risks and opportunities register
Identify any project deficiencies for project team correction
Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements
5+ years relevant 3D SMP modelling experience, preferably with AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation intelligent models
CAD administration experience with experience in training CAD designers in 3D software modelling
Prior experience working in a chemical processing or highly complex environments is highly desirable
Experience with laser scanning equipment for 3D drafting of mechanical parts and pipe work desirable
Demonstrate organizational approach to designing equipment and prioritizing tasks to meet schedule requirements
Strong communication skills in multi discipline teams
Education / Qualification Requirements
Advanced Diploma of Mechanical Engineering minimum
Significant experience and training in the use of intelligent 3D modelling software, preferably Bentley MicroStation
Excellent computer literacy
Advanced knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint
